The education system in Sweden is mandatory for children between ages 7 to 15. Preschool is free for low-income families.

The Sweden education system is divided into four stages:

Pre-school: Preschool is open to children from 1 to 5 years of age.

Kindergarten:

All children are offered a place in kindergarten starting in the autumn term of the year they turn 6 until they start compulsory schooling.

Compulsory schooling:

This comprises elementary school for years 1-3 is followed by the middle school for years 4-6 and then junior high school for years 7-9.

After compulsory school:

Senior high school is optional and free of charge. Senior high school programs run for three years.

Sweden offers an undergraduate academic degree such as B.Sc. the duration of the B.Sc. program is three to four years. the bachelor of science degree focuses on developing students’ mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Students’ research abilities are tested in the final year when students have to write a thesis to complete their studies. The bachelor of science degree is offered to students in the areas of natural sciences, business, and management, engineering sciences, mathematics, and informatics.

Sweden’s universities offer a large number of master’s programs in English and free tuition fees for EU, EEA, and Swiss students. Sweden’s education is modern, highly developed with liberal attitudes. The Swedish higher education system consists of universities and university colleges. The structure of Swedish postgraduate degrees conforms to the Bologna Process.

Master’s degrees are classified as second cycle degrees and PhDs as ‘third cycle’. Sweden is a member of the European Higher Education Area and the signatory of the Bologna process masters in Sweden can either be a one-year or two-year degree.
